Creatorspgh recently chatted with Hartline to find out more about her daily schedule, relevant skills, and advice for aspiring artists.
A passion for art
Hartline fell in love with art at a young age. No matter the creative outlet, the artist knew where her passion lied.
“I’ve been drawing and painting my entire life; it’s always been my biggest interest,” said Hartline.
The artist prefers to work in bold/traditional styles and color work. She prioritizes themes like Flash, Pinups, American Traditional, Pop Culture/Horror, Animals, Floral Designs, and Stippling.
Geez, what can’t she do?
I’ve done my best to add to my abilities and mostly do more mixed media type work now,” she adds.
A day in the life
For each client, Hartline arrives 30 minutes before the appointment, sets up her station, places the stencil and tattoos her client, and then breaks down her station.
“I usually schedule my appointments in advance so my drawings are already done and I know what my day will entail, though things can change up often,” she explains.
The artist also practices many different skills throughout the day. She focuses on hospitality, for the comfort of her clients, and adaptability, emphasizing, “the ability to draw and understand what compliments the body.” She also highlights her assurance of proper sanitation during the sessions.
The intuitive and detail-oriented artist is setting herself up for long-term success in the industry.
Advice for future artists
Hartline advises artists to jot down ideas as soon as they come to mind.
“Even if you think it might be stupid or ugly, it might be fun or you might go somewhere great with it,” she says.
The Altoona, PA native is now settled in Pittsburgh, doing what she loves. She encourages other artists to take pride in their creative work.
“I’m just trying to celebrate every improvement. I'm still learning, but I’m gradually feeling more pride at the end of my sessions.”
